Condition Us

Firearm safety is the number one thing to consider when purchasing a personal firearm. A complete understanding of the four basic Conditions of Carry will help compliment common sense and attention to detail. These conditions can be applied to all firearms and vary based on the type of firearm you are dealing with. I will stay on the topic of handguns.

Condition One: Ready for Action

In this condition, the handgun has a round in the chamber and a loaded magazine in the magazine well. This condition is the condition just prior to firing. The thumb safety (if applicable) is engaged. In order to bring the pistol into action, the operator only needs to put it on target, and complete whatever steps are necessary to fire.

Condition Two: Ready for Danger

In this condition, there is a round in the chamber and a full magazine in the magazine well, like condition one, but the safety is off and the hammer is down. Handguns without external hammers, such as the XD and Glock, cannot be carried in condition two.

This condition is not recommended because the gun must be cocked before it is ready to fire, making it slower than condition one. In addition, if the gun is dropped on the hammer, or the hammer slips, there is a possibility of the gun discharging.

Condition Three: Somewhat Safe?

In condition three, the chamber is empty and a fully loaded magazine is in the magazine well. This is the carry method for many military organizations in the world. In order to fire, the slide needs to be reciprocated to chamber a round.

Many people feel that this method of storage is safe for children, but I do not recommend it as the only safety measure. This is an excellent condition for a backup weapon in a locked safe.

Condition Four: Safety First

In condition four, the handgun is completely unloaded. The magazine is removed from the gun. The slide can be locked back for completeness, but I recommend letting the slide forward and the hammer down for long term storage.

No matter what condition you prefer, a gun safe is essential to firearm safety, especially if there are children around. I personally carry in condition one and think it is foolish to carry in any other condition. When I am not carrying, I leave my guns in condition one, but they are locked in a safe and inaccessible to others. In the end, it is your responsibility to determine the safest manner to handle and store your firearms.

The Human Condition The Human Condition
$12.79

A work of striking originality bursting with unexpected insights, The Human Condition is in many respects more relevant now than when it first appeared in 1958. In her study of the state of modern humanity, Hannah Arendt considers humankind from the perspective of the actions of which it is capable. The problems Arendt identified then -- diminishing human agency and political freedom; the paradox that as human powers increase through technological and humanistic, inquiry, we are less equipped to control the consequences of our actions -- continue to confront us today. This new edition, which coincides with the fortieth anniversary of its original publication, contains an improved and expanded index and a new introduction. by noted Arendt scholar Margaret Canovan which incisively analyzes the book's argument and examines its present relevance. A classic in political and social theory, The Human Condition is a work that has proved both timeless and perpetually timely.
On the Human Condition On the Human Condition
$20.85

In an age of cloning, virtual reality and artificial intelligence what sort of future is in store for human beings? If it is a posthuman future as some predict, will it also be inhuman? On the Human Condition is a thought-provoking and profound reflection on where the idea of the human stands today. Dominique Janicaud argues that while we need to avoid apocalyptic talk of a posthuman condition, as embodied in technology such as cloning, we should neither fall back on a conservative humanism nor become technophobic. Drawing on topical examples such as genetic engineering, the mythology around the Frankenstein myth and the ideas of Pascal and Primo Levi, Dominique Janicaud urges us to acknowledge the fragile and provisional nature of being human. Above all, he argues that even if we do live in a world that is already posthuman, it is not a predicament we can confront alone and heroically, but must share with others.
The Inhuman Condition The Inhuman Condition
$53.95

In The Inhuman Condition Keith Tester explores whether we are capable of coming to terms with the world we have made, then argues that we are not. We are so confused by the wonders and the sights and sounds around us that we all try to build safe little homes in which we can, for a while, be consoled by love which is doomed to fail as soon as it is thought about, and by commodities which leave us unsatisfied. This book is a major interpretation of contemporary cultural and social relationships. It is also a major exercise in sociology which encompasses thinkers like Heidegger, Arendt, Benjamin and Simmel. The author opens with Heidegger worrying about photographs of the earth and argues that, contrary to sociological orthodoxy, the world is now more experienced in the finding than the making. Tester then explores aspects of that finding: from the beautiful promises of commodities to the noises and sights of cities, from the search for love to the throbbing gristle painted by Francis Bacon. We can only come to terms with our experiences and our existences if we embrace the inhuman idiot wisdom of kitsch; and perhaps there is no escape from the embrace of stupidity.

Inhuman Condition Inhuman Condition

At the origin of this volume, a simple question: what to make of that surprisingly monotonous series of statements produced by our societies and our philosophers that all converge in one theme - the importance of difference? To clarify the meaning of the difference at stake here, we have tried to rephrase it in terms of the two major and mutually competing paradigms provided by the history of phenomenology only to find both of them equally unable to accommodate this difference without violence. Neither the ethical nor the ontological approach can account for a subject that insists on playing a part of its own rather than following the script provided for it by either Being or the Good. What appears to be, from a Heideggerian or Levinasian perspective, an unwillingness to open up to what offers to deliver us from the condition of subjectivity is analysed in these pages as a structure in its own right. Far from being the wilful, indifferent and irresponsive being its critics have portrayed it to be, the so-called 'postmodern' subject is essentially finite, not even able to assume the transcendence to which it owes its singularity. This inability is not a lack - it points instead to a certain unthought shared by both Heidegger and Levinas which sets the terms for a discussion no longer our own. Instead of blaming Heidegger for underdeveloping 'being-with', we should rather stress that his account of mineness may be, in the light of contemporary philosophy, what stands most in need of revision. And, instead of hailing Levinas as the critic whose stress on the alterity of the Other corrects Heidegger's existential solipsism, the problems into which Levinas runs in defining thatalterity call for a different diagnosis and a corresponding change in the course that phenomenology has taken since. Instead of preoccupying itself with the invisible, we should focus on the structures of visibility that protect us from its terror. The result? An account of difference that is neither ontological nor ethical, but 'mC(-ontological', and that can help us understand some of the problems our societies have come to face (racism, sexism, multiculturalism, pluralism). And, in the wake of this, an unexpected defence of what is at stake in postmodernism and in the question it has refused to take lightly: who are we? Finally, an homage to Arendt and Lyotard who, if read through each other's lenses, give an exact articulation to the question with which our age struggles: how to think the 'human condition' once one realizes that there is an 'inhuman' side to it which, instead of being its mere negation, turns out to be that without which it would come to lose its humanity?
Critical Condition Critical Condition

Exposing the most controversial, little-known practices of America's most flawed system, Time magazine's Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative team pulls back the curtain on the health care industry to explain exactly how things grew so out of control. Dirty examination and operating rooms in doctor's offices and hospitals . . . Health care executives pulling in millions in bonuses for denying treatment to the sick . . . More than 100 million people with inadequate or no medical coverage . . . This may sound like the predicament of a third-world nation, but this is America's health care reality today. The U.S. spends more on health care than any other nation, yet our benefits are shrinking and life expectancy is shorter here than in countries that spend significantly less per capita. Meanwhile, HMOs, pharmaceutical companies, and hospital chains reap tremendous profits, while politicians--beholden to insurers and drug companies--enact legislation for the benefit of the few rather than the many, while the entire system is on the verge of collapse. In CRITICAL CONDITION, award-winning investigative journalists Donald L. Barlett and James B. Steele expose the horror of what health care in America has become. They profile patients and doctors trapped by the system and offer startling personal stories that illuminate what's gone wrong. Doctors tell of being second-guessed and undermined by health care insurers; nurses recount chilling tales of hospital meltdowns; patients explain how they've been victimized by a system that is meant to care for them. Drug companies profit by selling pills in the same manner that Madison Avenue sells soap, while Wall Street rakes in billions bybuilding up and then tearing down health care businesses. And politicians pass legislation perpetuating the injustices and out-right fraud the system encourages. By analyzing the industry and offering an insightful prescription for getting it back on the right track, CRITICAL CONDITION is an enormously compelling investigative work that addresses the concerns of every American.

This landmark collection discusses the condition of the subject of English in UK higher education and elsewhere. It understands 'English' not as idealistic or theoretical concept, but as practice made material in institutional, theoretical and human contexts. Ranging across a variety of practices undertaken under the name of English in the UK, Europe, India, Africa, Australia and the US, the book confronts what we teach, how we teach and why we teach one of the most popular university disciplines at the start of the twenty-first century.

Quiet Riot - Condition Critical Quiet Riot - Condition Critical
$6.99

By early 1984, Quiet Riot was undoubtedly one of the most popular heavy metal acts in the U.S. Things quickly took a turn for the worse by the summer release of its sophomore effort, CONDITION CRITICAL. Singer Kevin DuBrow had been continuously slamming other hard rock bands in the press (most notably Motley Crue and Ozzy Osbourne). Taking shots at Ozzy rubbed many metalheads the wrong way and caused friction within QR itself.CONDITION CRITICAL performed respectfully on the charts regardless, due to another successful Slade cover ("Mama Weer All Crazee Now"), as well as the self-explanatory "Party All Night," and other rockers such as "Sign of the Times," "Stomp Your Hands, Clap Your Feet," and the title track. After the ensuing tour wrapped up, bassist Rudy Sarzo left the band, eventually resurfacing as a member of Whitesnake three years later. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. Serious and Unstable Condition: Financing America's Health Care Serious and Unstable Condition: Financing America's Health Care
$19.11

The United States spends more on health care than any other nation in the world, yet millions of Americans cannot afford basic care for acute illnesses, few are insured against the costs of long-term care, and many frequently used medical procedures have never been fully evaluated. The goals of controlling spiraling health care costs and extending insurance coverage or even maintaining current insurance coverage seem to be in conflict. But progress can be made on both goals if they are tacked together. Henry Aaron evaluates these critical issues and explores how adequate care can be provided without fueling inflation. Because the current arrangements for financing America's health care cannot endure, Aaron contends that a major national debate on the restructuring of the U.S. system of financing health care is inescapable, and major legislation is likely. Serious and Unstable Condition offers a guide that is crucial to understanding the reform debate. It explains the important economic issues of health care as a background for evaluating both the current system and proposals for change. Aaron compares the U.S. system of health care financing with certain foreign systems and reviews major options for reform. He cautions that unless the health insurance system is radically changed, the number of uninsured will continue to increase and costs will continue to escalate. He then offers his own comprehensive plan to address these problems.
Viroid Life: Perspectives on Nietzsche and the Transhuman Condition Viroid Life: Perspectives on Nietzsche and the Transhuman Condition
$37.95

Evolution is seen to be entering a bio-technological phase. Nietzsche's affirmation that man is something that must be overcome no longer has a rhetorical ring given the means at our disposal at the end of the twentieth century. Viroid Life boldly challenges existing explanations of these changes inherited from modernity, arguing that they have exhausted their usefulness and new models are needed to guide us in mapping through the future. Exploring and critically examining the new realities of artificial life that confront us, Viroid Life brings together the tradition of Nietszchean thought with new work in exploratory biology and machinic thinking. Offering insights from Darwin to Gilles Deleuze and Guy Debord and the Situationist movement, Pearson provides a brave starting point for any inquiry on the future of the human.

The Condition of English: Literary Studies in a Changing Culture The Condition of English: Literary Studies in a Changing Culture
$118.03

Now that the political correctness controversy has cooled, a time for sober reflection on the field of English has arrived. In this insightful overview of English, and of literary studies, Fleishman employs both historical perspective and pragmatic sense about choices for the future. His approach is to apply recent strategies of contextual understanding to English itself. What can a class analysis tell us about the influence on the profession of the changing American socioeconomic system? What are the likely intellectual and professional outcomes of the curricular embrace of minority literatures, neglected authors, and popular culture? Beyond stimulating self-evaluation by English educators, this study prepares readers outside the field to selectively encourage new curricular and methodological opportunities.

The Condition, Elevation, Emigration, and Destiny of the Colored People of the United States and Officia The Condition, Elevation, Emigration, and Destiny of the Colored People of the United States and Officia
$13.82

A preeminent African American abolitionist, author, public intellectual, physician, the highest ranking Black officer during the Civil War, and a notable activist for the emigration of Blacks to Africa, Martin Robison Delany has left an enduring legacy in his writings, the power of his ideas, and his political activism. If many of his contemporaries were armchair thinkers, Delany went to Africa to see things for himself. So influential was he during the nineteenth century that a number of people now refer to him as the Father of Black Nationalism. He spent most of his career working toward the goal of seeking Black emancipation through practical projects aimed toward returning African Americans to Africa, where he hoped his people would make a new beginning within the context of political freedom and a society devoid of racism. Two of his most influential works on Black nationalism are presented in this volume. The Condition, Elevation, and Destiny of the Colored People of the United States (1852) presents Delany's separatist views. To many scholars of African American political thought, this book marks the origin of Black nationalism in print. However, its scope is much broader than this single focus might suggest. It is the first book-length study to present an account of the economic and political status of Blacks in the United States. Because of the intractable nature of U.S. racism and the deplorable living conditions of most African Americans, Delany concludes by recommending emigration of African Americans to Central America. Some years later Delany turned to Africa as the better choice for relocation of Black Americans. Based on an exploratory journey he took to West Africa in1859, he wrote Official Report of the Niger Valley Exploring Party. The report provides clear information on the conditions in West Africa of that time to give immigrants an idea of what they would encounter. He describes the way of life, diseases and their treatment, climate, soil, animals, plants, and peoples. He also provides an impressive amount of data on how to improve agriculture, land, ventilation, and housing to promote better living standards. Taken together, these two provocative and intriguing nineteenth-century documents shed much light on the Black nationalism movement in the context of African American history.

Buckner, The Human Condition portrays the thoughts and emotions experienced by both today''s political agendas and the current state of chaos in which we all live. The human condition is both a cry of freedom and an emotionally exuberant examination of the pain that rises internally. Through both turmoil and triumph, Mr. Buckner, lays the ground for both the Social Condition, the problems of our current political state, as well as the Individual Condition, a brutally honest foray into the turbulent past and shadowy future of his own life.
